Department Description
The percussion department at Berklee College features over 400 students, 28 faculty, and state of the art facilities. Students can choose from 13 majors and select drumset, hand percussion, vibraphone, or tonal percussion as their principal instrument. Due to it's incredibly diverse faculty, the percussion department department offers many choices for today's contemporary percussionist. Berklee College also offers special interest festivals.
Percussion Undergraduate Courses
The percussion department features over 50 course offerings. These offerings focus on drumset (Funk drumming, Fusion 1 & 2, Double Bass Drumming, Polyrhythms, Brush Technique, Advanced Drum Rudiments 1 & 2, Solo Construction, Contemporary Electronic Percussion, Studio Drumming, Country & Western Drumming, Advanced Drum Chant Reading and many more), hand percussion (Brazilian Rhythms and Percussion 1 & 2, West African Drumming Techniques 1 & 2, World Percussion 1 & 2, Intermediate Frame Drumming, Mixed World Ensemble and many others), Vibraphone (mallet labs 1,2, & 3, Intermediate and Advanced Improvisation for Vibraphone and many emsembles and percussion (Timpani Labs, Marimba Ensemble, Percussion Ensembles, Marimba Repertoire, and Transcriptions, Marimba in Chamber Ensemble, Concert Snare Drum Technique, Orchestral Percussion Techniques, and many others). Percussion Graduate Courses
Berklee College of Music offers a degree in Jazz Performance as a Masters Program. Advanced courses in ensembles, improvisation, and instrumental study are the main focus.
