Conducts weekly private study, including tracks in classical, rudimental, jazz, popular, and ethnic percussion. Conducts monthly percussion studio master class which covers all aspects of percussion, performance and pedagogy. This includes guest clinics and presentation. Some of the artists recently at UCF campus include Leigh Howard Stevens, Sam Denov, Kim Plainfield, Dave Samuels, and Ney Rosauro. Provides performance opportunities in one or more of the following percussion ensembles. (Membership of all ensembles is determined by an audition. All groups perform every semester on the percussion ensembles concert, as well as in various festivals and clinics throughout Florida and the United States.) 1. Large Pop Percussion Ensemble.This group of percussionists performs transcriptions of music from such contemporary artists such as Pat Methany, Frank Zappa, Steps Ahead, Shadowfax. Emphasis is on contemporary popular music and the popular application of all percussive instruments. This ensemble performs with guest artists like Dave Samuels, Ney Rosauro, and Arthur Lipner. 2. The Chamber Percussion Ensemble performs more traditional types of percussion ensemble literature, from the classics to more recent compositions and arrangements. In order to cover and perform as much literature as possible, emphasis is on placed smaller groups. The ensemble is often broken down into trio, quartets and quintets. 3. The Mallet Ensemble functions as a traditional Marimba band, performing music ranging from ragtime to transcriptions of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. The group also performs contemporary and popular music arranged by it's members. 4. The Steel Drum Band is open to all music students, regardless of the major instrument.The music is a combination of traditional Caribbean music, Pop/Rock, and Latin arrangements, as well as transcriptions of classical music. The University of Central Florida's drum corp, the Marching Knights, is equipped with state of the art percussion equipment.The drumline features up to thirty positions and employs modern drum corps style of playing. The Marching Knights perform at the Florida Citrus Bowl, along with frequent out-of-town games. A drumline is offered every fall session, as an additional percussion ensemble. This assists students in learning music, improving technique, and performing solos. Other University of Florida ensembles that frequently use percussion are: Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Brass and Percussion Ensemble,t he Summer Knights Jazz Pop Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra and Choral Ensemble. The program also includes intensive arts and academic training. The Percussion Department is under the direction of Professor Jeffrey M. Moore. In addition to teaching, conducting and performing at the University of Central Florida, Professor Moore is the Percussion Director for the internationally renowned, Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps.
