 Latin and Caribbean music covers many countries, cultures, rhythms and dances. When most of us think of Latin music, especially Salsa and Latin Jazz, we find that the Cuban rhythms are the commonly used forms. The heartbeat of the music is the clave, both as an instrument and rhythmic patterns.
The clave is the backbone of this music. But it’s more than just a rhythmic pattern or instrument, it’s a concept. It’s a way of thinking of the music that goes back to the African roots we find through out Latin American and the Caribbean.
