Latin Legends Candido Camero and Graciela
Celebrate at The Blue Note

Candido and GracielaOn Monday, April 26, 2004, at New York City's famed Blue Note Jazz Club, Latin Jazz legends Candido Camero and Graciela (the First Lady of Afro-Cuban song) performed to a sold-out crowd. The event was especially enjoyable since it also served as an 83rd birthday celebration for Candido, in which he was also presented with the Latin Percussion "Hall of Fame" award.

Latin music legends Candido Camero and Graciela are two of the last survivors of the Cubop movement of the late '40's, which fused Cuban rhythms with big band Jazz. Together these masters of the art bring a unique style and easy camaraderie to this new recording, highlighted by Graciela's call-and-response interplay with the band and Candido's subtle wizardry onthe conga drums.

Graciela is best-known as the lead vocalist for Machito and his Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra from 1943 through the '70's. Candido, an LP endorser for nearly forty years, has collaborated with almost all of the great jazz masters, including Clark Terry, Dinah Washington, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Mongo Santamaria, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie and Tito Puente. Together, they brought the audience back to the golden days of Latin Jazz, and also proved that they can still keep the crowd entertained and hungry for more. They also introduced the crowd to their new album entitled Inolvidable.
