Orlando Cepeda, former San Francisco Giant and inductee in the Baseball Hall of Fame, has another passion besides baseball. Orlando can be seen at all the key Latin jazz concerts up and down the West Coast as part of his function as the Giants' Community Relations Ambassador. This year Orlando was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame owing to a career that included many honors - Rookie of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, and countless visits to the All-Star Game. Needless to say, Orlando Cepeda, Puerto Rican by birth, has earned a distinction few baseballs players can hope to achieve.

Recently, Raul Rekow and Karl Perazzo of Santana got a chance to meet one of their heroes - Orlando Cepeda. In turn, Orlando was thrilled to get to know Rekow and Perazzo. I don't know who was more impressed by the meeting! All were together for the 18th Annual Encuentro del Canto Popular. A two-day music festival, based in San Francisco, which honored Orlando and his accomplishments.

In addition, it raised funds for the Hurricane Mitch relief efforts. Raul Rekow, Karl Perazzo, Ralph Irizarry, Puerto Rican string legend Yomo Toro, and bandleader, pianist, and author of the Salsa Guidebook, Rebeca Mauleon, were just of few of the legends who came out to support Orlando. You can tell from their smiles on the photo that it was a mutual admiration society! Orlando received a gift from the LP crew that night - an endorser jacket! From Orlando's response to the gift, you would have thought it was an autographed baseball from Willie Mays!
