Mention
Los Angeles-based percussionist Joey De Leon, Jr.'s, name and for most
musicians, the first word that comes to mind that describes his playing
is "creative". In addition, sensitive, dynamic, exciting
and adaptable also characterize his unique musical style.
For the past ten years, Joey has steadily built a reputation as a
musician who can play in just about in any situation or genre. From
his classical playing days to the folkloric and contemporary ensembles
of today, his relentless energy brings a creative effect to every performance.
He was the percussionist for former Earth Wind & Fire band member
and Grammy award-winning producer/songwriter/guitarist Al McKay. For
several years he performed with him worldwide.
In September 2006, Joey became a member of another Grammy-award winning
artist, Poncho Sanchez. "This is a gig a lot of top players would
want and the fact that I was selected was a big honor," says Joey.
Currently, De Leon is the percussionist for Rap star/actress/singer/film
producer Queen Latifah.
