Percussionist and LP player, John Mahon was born in Canton, Ohio, and moved to California, where he began his music career, in the 1980’s. Currently playing percussion and singing backup vocals for Elton John, Mahon has performed with many bands and artists including Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Phil Collins, Bonnie Raitt, and Edgar Winter.
Mahon performed on Peter White’s album Promenade in 1993, and in 1996, he performed on Dave Camps album Torrid Rain. He has appeared in such television specials as Elton John, One Night Only, The 42nd Annual Grammy Awards, and VH1’s 1999 Divas.
Mahon joined Elton John’s band in 1997, and has been with him ever since. Instrumentally, Mahon’s expertise in both acoustic and electronic percussion makes him uniquely qualified to realize Sir Elton’s huge songbook onstage. A tasteful and skilled percussionist and vocalist, Mahon brings depth and tonality to his performances.
Playing Sir Elton’s vast catalog of songs demands a wide range of sounds from Mahon’s percussion ensemble, which includes LP Galaxy Fiberglass Congas and Bongos, and a full assortment of LP bells, blocks, chimes, and hand percussion.
