Tito Puente, Jr.

Tito Puente, Jr.Timbale player and LP artist Tito Puente Jr. has accepted the responsibility of carrying on the tradition of his father, Latin percussion superstar, Tito Puente Sr., by bringing the Latin sound to a new generation. Young Tito resembles his father physically, spiritually, and musically, and, while deeply routed in the musical soul of his father, Tito is staking out his own claim on the future by putting his own modern and eclectic spin on the music he loves. His flair for playing the timbales moves today’s audiences to revel in the excitement of the music with him.

Tito has released two Spanish-language albums, "Guarachando" and "Sientelo", has had several Billboard dance hits, and has received a Latin Music Award for Best Salsa Video of the Year for his vibrant cover of his father’s signature composition, "Oye Como Va". His second album contained the single "Caliente", which not only was a tribute to his father, "El Rey", but which was also arranged by him.

Tito’s third album, which will be released in the spring of 2004, is called "En Los Zapatos De Mi Padre", (In My Father’s Shoes). On the album, Tito performs his father’s music with love for a new generation of listeners. It is meant to bring "la musica del Palladium" to a new generation of young people who will be experiencing its timelessness, for the first time, through the renditions of a proud son.

Currently a resident of Miami, Tito was born and raised in New York City. Though he began his musical indoctrination by playing percussion, he later added piano, songwriting, and producing to his list of music-related abilities. His craft and talents were honed while playing the New York City club scene with other celebrated artists, including his godmother, the Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz.

Tito recently joined forces with two other sons of Latin music legends, Mario Grillo, and Tito Rodriguez. The trio co-conduct The Big 3 Palladium Orchestra, a lush and fiery rebirth of the sound their fathers’ collectively made famous.
