Percussion is pleased to announce that Jason McGerr, drummer for the
Grammy-nominated band Death
Cab For Cutie has signed as an LP endorser.
McGerr reflects a drumming trend towards innovative, durable products
designed to incorporate easily into contemporary drumsets.
A serious young man, as he reveals in an appearance immortalized in
the DVD Modern Drummer Festival 2006 (Hudson
Music), Jason is an eloquent
educator with a knack for simplifying basic sticking patterns and de-constructing
complex rhythms. Endearing himself to the audience at the MD festival,
he took to the stage on the heels of another drummer’s blistering
display of drum theatrics, intimating to the crowd, “Well, I
can’t do that!”
Jason McGerr proved, however, that he could do that and more, combining
traditional drum rudiments with edgy, contemporary beats lifted from
Death Cab tracks, all the while displaying confident, crisp technique—perhaps
the result of Jason’s former extensive teaching practice. Prior
to joining Death Cab in 2002, and ensuing global tours, Jason was an
acclaimed teacher in his native Seattle. Nowadays legions of young
drummers fill stadiums, still looking to Jason for inspiration.
“The Modern Drummer festival performance encapsulated what Jason
McGerr is all about,” enthuses Steve Nigohosian, LP Director
of Artist Relations. “While he’s the engine behind Death
Cab and knows how to keep it simple, tasteful, and driving, he’s
also capable of substantial embellishment and that’s where LP
comes in. Our instruments allow him to subtly orchestrate and widen
his palette of sounds without compromising his drumset configuration.
Jason is part of a new wave of drummers who appreciate LP’s pioneering
work in devising innovative add-ons, which work well within limited
space and project well.”
An eternal student and eternal artist, Jason McGerr’s relentless
search for perfect drum sounds and tracks has led him through the pages
of the LP catalog. Jason uses a variety of LP
instruments from our
extensive product lines.
