Recently,
Santana percussionist and long time LP artist Karl
Perazzo visited the LP studios to record an online lesson, a special addition
to our extremely popular series. After warm greetings with the LP staff, Karl
retreated into the recording studio where LP technicians shot audio and video.
As a youth in San Francisco, Karl Perazzo had a singular vision. He saw himself
taking his place in the distinguished lineage of Santana percussionists. By
the time he was twelve, he had played with Cal Tjader, Malo, Ray Obeido, Andy
Narell, and even Prince. Then in 1991, his life dream was fulfilled when he
joined Santana to play timbales. Since that date, Karl has matured with the
band and has honed his flamboyant and musically sensitive style.
With Karl LP has created a line of timbales that
display street savvy good looks while holding the
line on price. Introduced at NAMM
2005, the line is targeted to percussionists
at all levels of ability for reasons of aesthetics,
tone, and durability.
Karl
Perazzo's online lessons will bolster a growing
library of instructional videos, available free
at Play
Like A Pro section.
The online video lesson library ranges from Candido
Camero's candid advice
for success to Jim Greiner's tips on playing
the clave, from David Garibaldi's analysis
of groove to Rebeca Mauleon's examination of
the basics
of Latin music.
