Clowning around! (L to R) LP's R& D Director Ray Enhoffer,
Designer Andy
Krol and Manager Richard Simons
Richard Simons, LP's R & D Manager is one of the staff members who takes
the most demanding design challenges and turns them into products that demonstrate
LP's leadership in percussion. Richard carries on the tradition started by LP's
Founder Martin Cohen by creating great instruments and solving product
problems that are often unusual but at the same time practical.
His background is as varied as the work he finds himself doing at LP. Having
studied electrical and mechanical engineering at the New Jersey Institute of
Technology and being skilled in such mediums as carving, carpentry, molding,
blacksmithing, and welding, provides Richard with all the necessary skills
to take a product idea and turn into a final instrument.
Interacting with LP's R &
D Manager, Ray Enhoffer and designer Andy Krol, he virtually makes any
prototype needed to advance the art of percussion. Not only does he know how
to create instruments that are well constructed with great sound qualities,
he instinctively knows what is needed to make them reproduce well during the
manufacturing process. Also fluent with AutoCAD Richard can create the final
drawings needed for manufacturing.
His engineering abilities and his somewhat eclectic background is just what
it takes to create the state-of-the-art instruments that LP offers to musicians
today. But Richard's talents do not end at LP, he is also a bassoonist and
bass clarinetist for The Rockland Community Concert Band, a saxophonist for
the Palisade Park Fire Department Band, and also play pipes in the Rockland
Scottish Pipe Band.
