It is 5:00 p.m. The freeway is bumper to bumper. Stores are closing. we get
the call: "We need a full set of congas, bongos and timbales with stands,
and hand instruments by
ten tomorrow morning for a sound check in LA. Sorry for the late notice!"
We never panic, just call our friends Chris, Dave, and Joey (not pictured)
in SIR's drum department. The name says it all. SIR is an acronym for Studio
Instrument Rentals and has branches in San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles.
The company's presence spells relief for artists, who can rest assured that
instruments will be top quality and studio-ready.
Staffed by dedicated pros who have the interest of the musician in mind, SIR
make Artist Relations guys, like myself, look good seven days a week, fifty-two
weeks a year. They are ready to walk into venues as diverse as soundstages,
studios, clubs, the Universal Amphitheater, or Avery Fisher Hall.
You need an LP guiro, jam block, timbales - or a vintagesnare drum, for that
matter - no problem! Visit SIR on the web at: http://www.sirny.com/.
