In a continuing effort to expose young children, their parents and caregivers to all forms of music, LP RhythMix, a division of Latin Percussion (a Kaman Music Company), co-sponsored the WBGO / Jazz 88.3's Free Children's Jazz Spring Concert Series. The free concerts are open to the general public; families, schools, church and community organizations are invited to attend. The series, which has entertained and educated thousands of children over the years, introduces them to jazz music performed by renowned jazz artists in an enjoyable and relaxed setting. The Spring series will be followed by a Fall 2003 Children's Jazz Concert Series, which will feature LP RhythMix instruments and an exciting performance by an LP endorser.

The April 12 show featured Roseanna Vitro performing at the East Orange Public Library. Ms. Vitro is the jazz vocal instructor for the Jazz for Teens Program held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. The program is co-sponsored by WBGO. She is also Director of the Vocal Jazz Department at New Jersey City University. Ms. Vitro has performed around the world with many legendary artists including Benny Golson, Jon Hendricks, and the great Lionel Hampton.

LP RhythMix manufactures high quality percussion instruments designed specifically for young children. The instruments are available in music stores, and are distributed to toy retailers in the United States and in Canada by International Playthings, Inc. Latin Percussion and LP RhythMix donated mini-tunable bongos and congas to the April 12th performance, which were given away as door prizes. Rich Simons, from LP Product Development, also donated castanets that were given to each child who attended.

LP would like to thank Dorthaan Kirk and Arlana Arrington of WBGO for helping to make LP RhythMix an integral part of this worthwhile project for children.
